The recently opened Ford Motor Company Silicon Valley Lab is in need of a new team member to engineer the next generation of software applications that are rapidly making Ford vehicles more useful, entertaining, connected and innovative products for today’s more technologically sophisticated consumers.
As the company moves into a new phase of its 100+ year history, one in which software is at the heart of its future. The automobile is being redefined as a networked computing platform upon which an ever-evolving set of applications is being designed, allowing us to create exciting new consumer experiences.
The newly established research lab within Ford is designing and implementing an open source hardware and software platform, OpenXC (http://openxcplatform.com), that extends your vehicle with custom applications and pluggable hardware modules. It uses standard, well-known tools to open up a wealth of data from the vehicle to developers. This new endeavor and approach for Ford Motor Company has been compared to some of the greatest start-up software laboratories in the U.S. both in environment as well as the state of mind.
Position Description:
- The ideal candidate will be working collaboratively as well as independently on the latest projects to innovate and exceed expectations for connectivity and functionality within and outside of the confines of the vehicle.
- Opportunity; the chosen candidate will have an opportunity to contribute new ideas for useful products for the consumer to utilize in their user experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Quickly prototyping vehicular features and apps
- Developing next generation software platforms that interface with key automotive systems in a reliable manner
Minimum Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will be able to present and show documented proof of the following:
- Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, such as Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.
- Exceptional English verbal and written communication skills are required
- Strong ability to work within a team environment, encourage collaboration and be accountable to contributing to openly communicative software development projects
- Exceptional software engineering skills, with strong examples of prior work (commercial and academic endeavors will both be considered)
- Strong ability to work within the framework of security, privacy, usability, and reliability constraints in the automotive environment
- Experience as a developer of Android and iOS app’s for commercial mobile use
- Experience as a developer of open source applications for commercial use
Preferred Requirements:
- Master of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, such as Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.
- Ford is looking for exceptionally creative, motivated and talented software engineers to join our team to rapidly develop application prototypes, toolkits and related architectures and infrastructure. We collaborate extensively within Ford and with external partners, thus we require exceptional communication and collaborative skills.
